my name is natalia.

I am a greek/finnish visual artist, living and working in my small home studio in helsinki. i was born in a small island in aegean sea and i moved to finland for my studies when i was 18. I have been doing art since a very young age. Paintings mostly. In 2020 I decided to learn pottery. I never attented any class for pottery I just bought ten kilos of clay and i started learning the art of pottery by myself. I visited the library often and I read all the books available for ceramics. soon I learned the skills and the next step was to find my ceramic identity. 

Since I was born and raised in an island in greece i was always surrounded by beautiful nature with textures everywhere and a very inspiring ancient history. my pottery creations are inspired from nature and history. I create contemporary ceramics with an ancient feel. I use raw materials found in nature. as much as possible. I make my own glazes made from wood and bone ashes, sea weed, volcanic stones and anything that is safe to use as a material in pottery. My work looks very organic and the textures and colours are earthy.

i work only with hand building methods which are the ancient ways to create pottery, the process is very slow and has many steps before having a final ceramic piece. all the pieces are unique, made carefully and sustainably. My Purpose is to embrace wabi sabi philosophy in pottery.
